Scholarly Communications at Thompson Rivers University

Scholarly communication refers to the ways research is created, shared, and discovered. It includes everything from publishing and disseminating findings to preserving and accessing research outputs. At TRU Library, we support scholarly communication through services like institutional repositories, research data management, and open access publishing platforms. Explore below to learn how we can help you share your research effectively.

Systematic and Scoping Reviews Support

Librarians can assist with planning, conducting, and reporting systematic reviews and other types of research reviews. To learn more about conducting systematic reviews at Thompson Rivers University, please email your subject librarian. You can request individual or group training.

We also provide access to Covidence, a new evidence synthesis tool that can support you with managing your systematic or scoping review.

TRUSpace

TRUSpace is TRU's institutional repository, which allows the library to archive and make accessible the research and local resources that make TRU unique. Use TRUSpace to find institutional history, faculty publications and data, student work, and more. Visit our TRUSpace Guide to learn more about depositing your work into TRUSpace.

Research Data Management

Research Data Management (RDM) involves organizing, storing, accessing, and preserving the data generated throughout a research project. Effective RDM supports data integrity, reproducibility, and long-term usability. Managing your data begins at the planning stage and continues through collection, analysis, sharing, and archiving. The library can assist you in developing a Data Management Plan (DMP) tailored to your project’s needs.

Explore the resources below to learn more about RDM and to get started with creating your DMP.

Depositing Your Research Data

You may be required, or choose, to deposit your research data in an online repository. Doing so can help you meet funding requirements, support open research practices, and increase the visibility and impact of your work.
  • TRU Borealis Data Repository: The Thompson Rivers University Dataverse Collection (TRU Borealis) is a secure platform for TRU faculty, students, and staff to store and share research data. It supports long-term preservation and provides persistent identifiers for citation and reuse.
  • TRU Borealis Guide: Visit the TRU Borealis Guide for step-by-step instructions on how to deposit your data and comply with best practices in research data management.

Open Journal Systems (OJS) at TRU

We also offer digital publishing support to faculty, staff, and students through the BC Electronic Library Network’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. OJS is open-source software for managing and publishing scholarly journals. It supports article submission, peer review, editorial workflows, and online publication.

Whether you're launching a new journal or managing an existing one, OJS provides the tools to support open access publishing at TRU.
  • Get Started with OJS: Visit the TRU OJS Guide for step-by-step instructions on creating and running a journal.
  • Arca Publishing: Explore Arca Publishing to see how OJS is used across BC institutions.
