At Thompson Rivers University, Williams Lake campus, the following Trades courses are offered:

  • Aerial Lifts and Booms
  • Basic Drone Pilot License Training Program
  • Forklift Safety

Aerial Lifts and Booms  •  XDRV 0500

This course uses in-class theory and hands-on practice to equip participants to safely operate Aerial Lifts and Booms.  Successful participants will receive a certificate valid for three years. 

The following topics are covered:

  • Operator Fundamentals
  • Machine Fundamentals
  • Pre-Operational Inspections
  • Safe Operation Guidelines
  • Scissor Lifts

Upon successful completion, a certificate will be issued which is valid for 3 years.

Requirements: Steel-toed boots and photo ID

Time: 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Fee:  $345


 

Basic Drone Pilot License Training Program  •  XDRN 0100

This 40-hour Basic Drone Pilot License Training Program meets all Transport Canada requirements for basic drone certification. The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on field training, giving students the knowledge and skills for safe, professional drone operations.

Requirements: Applicants must have adequate vision and physical ability to operate a drone safely, and commit to active participation in both classroom and field training. 

Date:  January 12-16, 2026 (Monday to Friday)

Time: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Fee:  $3,000

Forklift Safety  •  XDRV 0500

Acquire forklift-driving skills to the CSA Standards Industrial Lift Truck Operator Training. The combined in-class theory and hands-on practice provide an opportunity for you to learn basic safety operations, equipment safety checks, how to operate the equipment, and more.  Please note, you will be required to drive a forklift, load and unload materials, and navigate through an obstacle course in a safe manner under the supervision of the instructor.

Upon successful completion, a certificate will be issued which is valid for 3 years.

Requirements: Steel-toed boots and photo ID
