Fast Track Diploma Requirements TRU Respiratory Therapy

All high school courses listed under three-year diploma requirements post-secondary courses in the same subject area(s) will also meet these requirements.

In addition:

Completion of 27 or more post-secondary credits, 18 of which must be the following:

• 6 credits Human Anatomy and Physiology 1000 level or higher with a C+ minimum grade
• 6 credits English or Communications or Writing Intensive courses 1000 level or higher with a C+ minimum grade
• 3 credits Statistics 1000 level or higher with a C+ minimum grade
• 3 credits Physics 1000 level or higher with a C+ minimum grade

All other post secondary courses used towards the total 27 credits must have a C+ min grade

Ranking

Applicants in this category must have the six post-secondary courses noted above. A GPA will be generated using these six courses for admissions consideration and ranking. Additional post-secondary education will be further ranked by number of post-secondary credits completed and if a degree has been completed. Fast track applicants who do not receive an offer may be considered for the three-year diploma.

The number of fast-track seats is limited.

Fast-track transcripts are assessed for year one transfer credits. Please be aware that post-secondary courses supersede high school courses.

As a fast-track applicant, you will be notified of your admission decision in early March.

If accepted, you should receive a conditional acceptance into the fast-track option, subject to the successful completion of the distance courses listed below.

RESP 1761	Pulmonary Physiology and Introduction to Ventilation
RESP 1781	Respiratory Therapy Equipment
HLTH 2511	Introduction to Pharmacology
Moodle course	RT Medical Terminology

*Fast track applicants wishing to get a head start may complete HLTH 2511 after application, however doing so does NOT guarantee a fast-track seat offer. 

Note: The courses listed above are for fast-track students only or for students who have been granted approval by the RT department. If students are declined a seat in fast-track and accept a seat in first year, they will need to register in the face-to-face RESP courses.
